We would like to get homeowner and resident feedback on a current local issue. A group of citizens is asking the City of Yelm to allow chickens to be raised in the city limits with sensible limits and regulations, perhaps even a permitting process. Many other local governments in Washington already successfully allow the raising of chickens for food and pets. Since our community is within city limits, what this means is, if the HOA were to also pass changes our rules to allow chickens, that the home next to yours could possibly have chickens in their back yard. The HOA could change the rules to be more restrictive than what the City allows based upon our lot sizes and density. The HOA could also require people wanting to raise chickens to submit to the ACC approval process. Would you like to see the City of Yelm and our HOA allowing the responsible, regulated raising of chickens?
